This week, has been a pretty easy week. After Sunday's race I did pool work Monday and Wednesday. Although, with a friend home from college, she definitely helped push me to do a work out that I avoid! So that was great. Tuesday 10 miler and then Thursday and Friday I ran for an hour each day.
Thursday and Friday were beautiful snowy days. On Wednesday as I got my clothes ready I intentionally put out my Boston shirt from last year. I knew Thursday it would be hard to get my butt out the door, in the dark, cold and snow so I had to have a plan. It worked, I saw the shirt and it reminded me, why I was doing this! Out I went. Thursday, I headed out the door but then realized the roads hadn't been touched (it was around 5:15am). So I went back in and strapped on the yak tracks. It was an awesome run. Running in 4-5 inches of snow you can't really think about your pace, well you can, but at least for me, it's more guessing, how slow I could possibly going instead of fast. I loved it though. It didn't matter if I was on the road, the sidewalk, in someone's yard, it was all the same. Soft white snow. Not really fluffy but soft.I felt like an all terain vehicle that could go anywhere! I did 4 loops around my house and then headed in. If I had known I had no school I probably would have done another loop or two. It was just so beautiful and serene. On one side of my loop it's all trees and the way the sky was gray but the snow white on the dark trees was awesome. After that I attempted to shovel a bit, true confession, I am not very good at shoveling. I at least did a good job getting the car cleaned off.
Today's run I did an out and back. The roads were better today no need for yak tracks, well mostly no need. I decided to duck into some neighborhoods and get off the busy streets. I had a laugh as I watched one car going down a hill literally slide into the snow. The road was pretty much sheer ice but if I could find a strip of more crunchy snow I was alright. I did 30:34 out but then tried to crank it down a bit on the way back and did 27 and change. I saw my principle and I knew I couldn't be late for work or else she would have thought it was because I was out running, so that helped me push the pace!
All in all a good running week. I feel rested and ready to start climbing back up the mileage ladder! This weekend 20? 22? We'll see what coach says!
For now I am thinking about shrimp dinner and some wine!
