My day started at 5:30 am with a bowl of oat meal and my kid puking on me. A lovely way to start your day especially when you're looking down the barrel of a 20 miler.
20 miles is daunting. Some people don't even drive 20 miles in a day so I was super thankful when we were able to get a group of 7 women together to hammer out the miles. The weather was perfect, company awesome. I had no idea where we were or where we were going but we started in Florence, went through West Hampton, Northampton, Look Park, Smith, down 66 and home to my friends house. 4 of us tacked on 3 miles at 7;30am and then rest joined a bit after 8 for 17. It's amazing and interesting how you can run with someone you don't know and chat with them as if you've known them for years. It is for sure a bonding experience. After running for hours we shared some delicious home made goods, coffee, hot chocolate and a few gallons of water.
I felt really well, until we ran past a diner near the bike path, the smell of bacon and pancakes almost pushed me over the edge. It smelled so good! Do you remember those old cartoons where the character would go floating through the air to food that smelled so good? That was me. We were about 13 miles in and I was starting to hit the wall a bit so the amazing smells we're not helping me feel strong. Thankfully a friend gave me a honey shot and off we went. My legs felt fine until about mile 19 and then it became the game of convincing my brain to tell my legs to keep going.
20 in the books for the day. Tomorrow, to the pool.
